FFA Steps up in Stevens Point

(The following article was taken from the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Ag NewsWire May 7, 2010. We have permission from Country Today to reprint this. The complete article is listed at the end of the article.)

FFA ALUMS OFFER BAILOUT TO STEVENS POINT AG PROGRAM The Stevens Point FFA Alumni Association wants to keep the horticulture program at Stevens Point Area High School intact and is willing to pay part of the teacher's salary to make it happen. Association President Rick Trzebiatowski told the school board April 26 that the FFA chapter would donate the money to keep agriculture teacher Ione Hausler at a full-time position and keep the school's greenhouse operating. After cutting $4.5 million, the school board was forced to cut an additional $2.9 million from the 2010-11 budget when a spending referendum failed April 6 by 187 votes. The FFA alumni offer would cover one-tenth of Hausler's salary and benefits estimated at about $10,000, said SPASH Principal Mike Devine. The school district would cover the rest.
